This poem is by 'Abu Khalid al-Qanani', not 'al-Hana'i' as erroneously recorded in 'al-Mughni' and 'al-Sharh al-Kabir'. Al-Qanani was one of the 'qada' (those who did not engage in active combat) of the Khawarij; he responds in this poem to 'Qatari ibn al-Fuja'ah'.
